
Mrs. Zolfahari has chosen Avner Yenna for student of the week. He is the son of Hollis and Rachel Yenna. He has two brothers and one sister. Avner currently plays basketball and likes to fish. He is a creative student who takes pride in his work and has a positive can-do attitude. He is a fantastic listener and shows respect towards both his teacher and his peers. Avner’s desire to learn is evident and I can count on him to be a calm, enjoyable presence in my class. Thank you Avner for your effort you put into your learning each day and being an awesome student!

Leadership Conference for grades 7-12


Miss Pavey has chosen Olen Payment as the Newberry Elementary School student of the week. Olen is the son of Matt and Jess Payment and an older brother to his two younger sisters. He has been selected because of his friendly attitude and his passion for learning. Olen comes to school every morning with a smile on his face and motivates his peers to do the same. Olen always gives 100% effort when completing his schoolwork and is a wonderful role model for his classmates. When he is not in school, Olen enjoys watching the Detroit Lions and hunting with his family. Congratulations Olen and thank you for all of your hard work! Keep it up!

Mrs. Staley's 5th and 6th graders celebrated finishing their book, Esperanza Rising, by having a fiesta! Families graciously donated and made mexican foods that were from the book. They ate, danced, and hit a piñata. What a great day! ☺️🎉

The kindergartners celebrated World Kindness Day by making kindness letters to adults in our school. We also talked about how it's important to be kind everyday! 💓









This week’s Student of the Week is First Grader, Mason Johnson. Mason is the son of Alex and Auguste Johnson. He is a big brother to his little sister and baby brother. His favorite food is pancakes. At school, Mason enjoys reading books and learning about snakes. When he grows up, Mason would like to be a scientist and find fossils!
Mason was chosen as student of the week because he is an outstanding student. He is polite and respectful to adults and other students. Mason can be counted on to follow the rules of our school. He is a hard worker and always tries his best. Congratulations, Mason! We are proud of you at Newberry Elementary School!
