The sixth graders met as a grade level for a Why Try lesson called, “The Reality Ride”. Students learned about making good choices to gain freedom, opportunity, and self-respect. We learned about planning, delayed gratification, things that are in our control, and how to handle things that are out of our control.

During the months of August and September, the K-6 students focused on being prepared. Many PRIDE bucks went into the bins for a chance to win prizes, these students were recognized during the Pride Palooza celebration this month. K-6 students will focus on “respect” during the month of October.

POSITION: Occupational Therapy Paraprofessional
DEPARTMENT: Special Education/District
REPORTS TO: Building Principals/Special Education Director
GENERAL SUMMARY:
To provide supportive assistance to the occupational therapist (OT) by taking an active part in the promotion of meaningful activities or occupations of students in a school setting. This individual will assist in supporting academic achievement and social participation by promoting occupation within all school routines, including recess, classroom, and cafeteria time.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduate or equivalent, with a minimum of two years of such appropriate
experience as allowed under school code and/or completion of advanced training in a
community college or degree-granting institution
Possess emotional stability, physical stamina and strength necessary to complete duties and
have an understanding and interest in the needs of students
Must have regular and reliable attendance
Must have the ability to travel to Whitefish School District one day per week (mileage will be
reimbursed)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned.
Assist the OT in the planning and implementation of student programs that have been initiated by the OT
Assist in the preparation and organization of instructional materials needed to implement student program
Carry out student objectives and/or programs established by the OT on a daily basis
Assist in documentation of student’s progress as needed and directed by the OT
Assist the OT and other support personnel in providing for student needs
Attend pertinent staff meetings and other in-service training sessions at the request of the supervisor
Perform and share responsibility in classroom duties, which may include but are not limited to: classroom preparation and clean up, monitoring of equipment and supplies
Must be able to physically assist students with adaptive equipment
Must be able to assist students in boarding and leaving motor vehicles
Must be able to physically and visually monitor students in all educational settings including student transportation systems and outdoor environments
Must be able to effectively communicate with staff and students
Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities, including support for other classrooms as needed, as requested by the OT or supervisor within the framework of this job description
Remain free of substance abuse and/or illegal drug use at all times
